Subject: [e] Happy New Year!
Hello all, I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone one on the list a Happy New Year and mention a few minor administrative items.
First, I hope everyone is happy with the "moderator lite" version of the list we've had for all of 2002. Since I no longer cache messages while I check them, your posts should always appear within a day of them reaching the list server. If you don't see your message within two days, then alert me via email and I will track down the problem.
Overall, it looks like the noise level has risen a bit, but so has the volume of postings for the whole year despite our not having half the number of subscribers we had two years ago. We've been adding a few new subscribers every week, most of them choosing to stay, and hopefully to participate.
My goal since starting the list has been to keep it non-commercial and spam-free, if you see things slipping through please don't hesitate to tell me about it. Only subscribers are allowed to post and I do have a small blacklist of spammers who try to recreate the tragedy of the commons in cyberspace.
Finally, I want to warn everyone that I'm going to have to shut down the server for up to a few hours in order to move it to a different room. I'll try to do this quickly to minimize the chances of messages getting delayed. This should NOT cause messages to get lost, but may cause your mail server to complain that the exegesis server was not found and that it will try sending again at a later time. I should have this finished before January 2nd. Of course, Mercury is about to retrograde, so nothing is certain...and I was just getting the itch to upgrade all of the server software...I think I will wait a few weeks for that!
In any case, glad you all can be here for the start of the 8th year (well, volume) of the list. I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year, and pray for a year of peace for the whole planet! Hang in there!
